Our Digital World
The digital world we live in today was built step by step by people who contributed ideas to make life easier, faster, and more connected. Visionaries like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates helped lead the way through the creation of computers making technology more personal and accessible. These tools eventually helped us develop the internet, smartphones, and apps that changed how we work, talk, and especially manage money. Within the finance industry specifically, the digital shift made it easier to trade, analyze, and track data in real time. As for someone who has grown up bilingual, I have witnessed the Spanish-speaking community extremely benefit from this shift as it has allowed more access to financial services through translated platforms and mobile banking. This is crucial as that language barrier used to hold a lot of Spanish speakers from accessing financial services before, limiting them to what they could do with their finances in terms of planning and investing. The creative process wasn’t just about coding and breaking language barriers —it was about solving everyday problems and creating better systems. As a Finance major and Spanish minor, I see how transition to digital opened new doors for businesses, education, and global communication.
This transition was also shaped by social and economic change. People were looking for ways to connect no matter what part of the world they were on, increase efficiency and have the ability to manage money from anywhere. Technology had made all of this it possible, but it was people’s needs and ideas that truly continued to push it forward. The financial industry evolved quickly, moving from paper records to software, and now to cloud-based platforms. For individuals in Spanish-speaking countries, digital tools helped close the gap where banks or resources weren’t available nearby. Even today, there’s more work to be done to make sure the digital world continues developing to work properly for everyone. Understanding the people and ideas behind this shift helps me appreciate the impact it’s had on every part of life— especially including the career I want to pursue.
